How it works

Measure, attribute, prove.

A datacenter's infrastructure uses electricity, but that electricity is metered as a whole. GreenShift combines measuring the power consumption with recording which application did how much work. That turns one total into a breakdown by customer, project and application.

Infrastructure servers, power GreenShift measure · attribute Dashboard per customer, per app
What comes out

What operators and customers see.

Consumption per customer, per application and per machine, live and over time. Plus the split between the applications, running the infrastructure, and the idle draw that belongs to nobody.

How accurate is it?

The total is measured. The split is reasoned.

We measure the total consumption. How it is divided among individual applications is a reasoned approximation that always adds up exactly to the measured total.

We say so openly, because transparency is only worth something if you know what is measured and what is allocated.

Where it runs

For Kubernetes and virtualised environments.

GreenShift is designed for Kubernetes and virtualised environments, the infrastructure cloud providers share with their customers. Today the prototype runs in a test environment.
